Hamburger Soup

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 3½ cups beef broth
  • 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 hamburger buns, torn into 2-inch pieces
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 4 bacon slices, cooked and roughly chopped, for garnish

Directions

  1. In a large pot, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic. Add the salt and pepper.
  2. Add the broth, tomatoes, tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20 to 25 minutes.
  3. Add the bun pieces and ¾ cup of the cheese and cook for 10 minutes more. The soup should be thick and the buns dissolved.
  4. Ladle into bowls. Serve topped with the remaining cheese and the bacon.
